About - Paula González Gavilanes

Journalism and Photography

Over the years, my investigative and visual storytelling has found a home in prominent media outlets across the globe. My written articles and photo essays have been featured in esteemed publications such as The Guardian, Al Jazeera English, Middle East Eye, VICE, and El Espectador (Colombia). My voice has also resonated in the pages of The National (UAE) and Zona Docs (Mexico), as well as in several leading Spanish media including EL PAÍS, El Periódico, Gara, Pikara, El Salto, ARA, and La Directa.

I honed my skills as a photojournalist during an internship at El Periódico de Catalunya, and have since contributed my photography to non-governmental organizations like Oxfam, Hedayah, UNICEF Tunisia, and UNICEF USA. Each collaboration has enriched my perspective and deepened my commitment to visual and written storytelling that drives social change.

Translation and Research

In addition to my journalism and photography, I have served as a translator for esteemed media outlets such as the BBC, and as a researcher for various organizations including the Global & International Studies Initiative. These roles have allowed me to bridge gaps in understanding and contribute to comprehensive, nuanced narratives.

Co-Founder of Ixaya Media and Research

I am also the proud co-owner of IXAYA MEDIA AND RESEARCH, an organization dedicated to enhancing journalistic quality and capacity. Through IXAYA, we conduct trainings, seminars, and workshops led by highly-experienced reporters, empowering local journalists to reach wider global audiences. Our work spans the creation of in-depth journalistic reports, documentaries, multimedia projects, and more, serving a diverse array of clients in the news and NGO sectors.
